Summer Solstice
Honoring the Summer Season and Your Body
The Summer Solstice is a day of equal day and night. It also starts the summer season with reigniting our passions and goals.
We start off the summer with a brewing fire that is ready to be used with what we have learned and planned for during the winter and spring months. Shedding off what doesn’t serve us anymore; we are ready to be free, wild, curious and open! The sun stokes this energy within us all season long- Yang energy. I feel more energetic, alive and excited to experience the season. Do you get that way too?
As mother nature presents itself with a lush bounty of wonderful and nutritious foods that delight the palate and inspire our digestive energy. It is also a time to go outside to explore our surroundings and learn about the world especially with the longer days.
But can we take it too far? Can the fire of summer wear us down? Oh yes, this fire can definitely get out of control but there are things we can do to help this fire stay grounded throughout the summer with grace and patience. Does the summer also leave you with less patience, maybe a little irritable at times?
Here are a few things that can help you ground yourself to nourish your Yin energy during this time:
Meditation and Breathwork;
Gentle exercising, slower practices (swim, walking, yoga, qigong, tai chi);
Keep your body hydrated and cool;
Take an afternoon nap or afternoon meditation break to get through the longer days;
Eat in season, more seasonal organic fruits and vegetables;
Acupuncture, massage;
Keep your stress levels in check;
Get enough sleep.
