Now that I am 55, I have learned a few things that I need in life that really matter to my overall well-being. All the lessons thus far have shaped me into the person I am today, but if I had to tell my younger self some valuable things to spare some time and suffering I wouldn’t hesitate to go back in time to different parts of my life to help the girl out. As a mother, wife, creative, health and wellness coach, holistic nutritionist and person in the holistic wellness space there are things that have helped me a lot with the knowledge I have gained over the years. Here are a few things I’d start with.

This one is a huge lesson, “your thoughts really matter!” What you think/have thought shapes your current reality.  As a child I remember thinking that if I thought the worst in every situation I could be prepared and wouldn’t get my hopes up if things didn’t go well. I stayed a shy and timid little girl for a very long time.

Who you allow to love you and who you love matters. As a teenager and a helpless romantic I dreamt that someone would just sweep me off my feet and we’d live happily ever after, wrong! Everyone needs to love and respect themself first. This way at least you would know your worth and not settle.

Don’t be afraid to go out of your comfort zone.  Ok, all you sensitive people out there (I am one of you too) this took many years to learn but you cannot be afraid of your life or your potential.  You can still do you on your terms but please don’t hide your gifts. I’d tell my younger self, “girl, you don’t want to be a would of, could of, should of girl - so go get it!”

What you consume matters.  Anything you consume that goes into your body from the food you eat, the air you breathe, what you listen to, and to the people you surround yourself with matters. For this one, I’d have to go in time every 5 years to remind myself of this.  Just dealing with the topic of food and my current food allergies and digestive journey would be one of the most valuable lessons I’d tell my younger self.  Also make sure the friends you have bring something positive to your life. This is hard, but will be liberating - move on from those toxic and negative people who are bringing you down (and send them light and love to grow).

Connecting to your inner wisdom and developing that throughout your lifetime is the key to your health and happiness.

Honoring your soul matters.  Ok, this is a big one too. For most of us we are seekers. We may think someone or something is going to save us or tell us what we are meant to do. Well, there are a lot of good resources that help us along the way, but our inner wisdom is priceless.  Connecting to our inner wisdom and developing that throughout our lifetime is the key to our health and happiness. This helps in your career, your purpose, your health, love-relationships, life decisions, the whole shabang!

5 essential areas in your life to consider for more health and happiness.

So, you may be asking where do I start? I’d start with your thoughts- this is where mindfulness comes in.  Examine your thoughts casually everyday from the first thought you have when you wake up to the last thought of the day. Journal daily about some of your thoughts that linger more than the others.  Then objectively look at the results of these thoughts. For example, you may think about your job and are worried about a project or are dealing with a particular person that stresses you out. Are your thoughts positive or negative?  Does it consume your day? Do these thoughts create stress in your mind and/or body? How do these thoughts challenge your daily living or choices?  Do you find yourself in a tailspin making other things in your life start to create their own tailspins leaving you feeling frustrated or blah?  If any of these questions resonate with you then my friend you need to create change, change the energy in your thoughts to work in your favor.  Adopt a positive mindset, practice mindfulness, talk to a friend, coach or therapist.  Get help and do research on this topic. There is a lot of information out there for you.  Above all, be gentle with yourself and don’t give up.

Once you feel comfortable you can explore some of the other topics I listed. Don’t be in a rush.  Lasting change takes time, dedication, and practice.

Stay tuned, I am developing a program to help you build your own blueprint with more topics and resources.  Until then if you are curious about coaching and how I can help drop me a line.
